About The Event

The annual graduation ceremonies of Mount Zion Higher Institute are a highly anticipated event in the communities of Buea and Bamenda, held every March and April respectively. Each year, at least 100 students successfully complete their training in nursing and midwifery, with a combined total of 225 graduates in the most recent ceremonies.

Celebration of Excellence:

More than just an academic milestone, Mount Zion’s graduation is a vibrant cultural celebration. With 500 to 1,000 attendees annually, the event draws local authorities, parents, sponsors, and a distinguished guest of honour from the American Association of Pro-life Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAPLOG) who delivers the commencement address. The blend of academic formality and cultural richness makes this ceremony truly special.

Cultural performances:

Cultural performances represent the 10 regions of Cameroon and extend to neighboring Nigeria, showcasing traditional dances, attire, and music. This year, the audience was particularly moved by the Igbo dance, presented by two graduating Nigerian students—a first in Mount Zion history. The school choir uplifts the crowd with gospel and traditional songs, while students present poems and dramas sharing their transformative journeys at Mount Zion.

A Gateway:

The atmosphere is both celebratory and emotional, as graduates reflect on the challenges they’ve overcome and the skills they’ve gained. The event also honours excellence, awarding top students in theory and practical nursing.

Mount Zion’s graduation is not only a capstone event—it’s also a gateway. Many new students discover the school by attending the ceremony of a friend or relative, making the event a powerful tool for community engagement and outreach.

Global Impact:

Through these graduations, Mount Zion Higher Institute continues to impact healthcare education in Cameroon, Africa, and beyond, producing skilled, compassionate nurses who are shaping the future of global health.
